2/11/2003 - Boating on the Caloosahatchee - Looking for Manatee

As we continued east, toward the Orange River (where the manatee are), the river continued to narrow.

The Florida Power and Light (FPL) power plant!  Only months ago huge stacks were visible, they were removed after they switched from oil to natural gas.

On the very right of this community is the Orange River.  We didn't have to go too far into the river to find manatee.

You can't see them because they are just below the water, however, we saw a bunch of manatee.  One of them had been hit by a boat and its back was all cut up from a propeller (sigh).   We think that manatee was about 12 feet long and 3 feet wide, it was huge!

As we exit the Orange River and go back onto the Caloosahatchee, you can see the Manatee art work in the water.
